Hong Kong's young goofy-footer Mahohi Nguyen has already surfed wave pools in Europe and Asia, competed internationally and travelled the world in search of waves. Next on his list is the Wavepool Surf Tour.

How old are you and where are you from?

I'm 15 years old. I was born in Hong Kong, where I still live. My mom is Argentine, my dad is Vietnamese, and both of them were born in Switzerland.

When did you start surfing?

I started surfing when I was seven years old.

What's your local break?

Big Wave Bay in Hong Kong.

Which wave pools have you surfed?

Alaïa Bay in Switzerland and Riyue Bay Surf Resort in China.

Do you have a favourite?

Definitely Alaïa Bay.

Are you excited to compete on the Wavepool Surf Tour?

Yes! I'm really excited.

The tour will travel to different countries. Will you be following it internationally?

Yes, of course.

Who supports your surfing?

Guts Helmets.

Do you compete regularly?

Yes. I compete in regional surfing competitions.

What are some of your recent results?

I made the semifinals in the Under 12 division at a European event in Tenerife, and I finished third in the Hong Kong Freesurfing Competition in the Open Men's division.

Where has surfing taken you so far?

I've surfed in Bali, Hong Kong, Hainan in China, Portugal, France, Tenerife, and at wave pools in Switzerland and China.

Where's your next surf trip?

Bali.

Tell us about your favourite board.

It's a Gramaha E250, 4'8" with 17 litres of volume.

Would you ride a different board in a wave pool?

No. I use the same equipment.

Wave pools are opening all over the world. What do you think about that?

I'm really happy about it.

Who are your favourite surfers?

Andy Irons, Kelly Slater and Stephanie Gilmore.

The Wavepool Surf Tour counts your two best waves, and you can replace them if you improve. What's your strategy?

I'll be looking for strong forehand turns and barrels, plus powerful backhand turns.
