How it works

The Judging System

01

Judging Panel

An experienced international judging panel of five judges will be selected at every event. When judging, each wave will be reviewed independently by the five judges — each judge scoring rides on a scale of 0–10 points per ride. No head judge will be used.

02

Counting Wave Scores

Each entry to any division requires the athlete's two best waves. The combined scores of both waves determine the final result — maximum total 20.00. Special categories may have different requirements, as noted in their descriptions.

03

Wave Scale Ratings

Uploaded video submissions — 'waves' — are rated on a judging scale of Poor, Fair, Average, Good and Excellent, allowing judges, athletes and fans alike to understand performance levels from first entry.

04

Wave Score Average

All five judges score each wave individually. The highest and lowest scores are then removed, with the remaining three judges' scores averaged to calculate the final wave score — ensuring fair, balanced results.

Event Rules

Key competition rules — expand each section for the full regulation. Full rulebook available on request

01

Entry Format

Each entry consists of TWO WAVES. TWO best right-hand waves OR TWO best left-hand waves, OR A TWO-WAVE COMBINATION OF ONE LEFT AND ONE RIGHT. Multiple attempts can be purchased.

Competitors must ensure, they surf the correct wave setting for their respective divisions. Incorrect wave settings will not be accepted

Multiple attempts can be purchased at an extra wave upload fee. Competitors must submit exactly two waves: their best two right-hand rides or their best two left-hand rides. Both waves are scored independently by the judging panel; the combined total (maximum 20.00) determines your leaderboard position.

Athletes may purchase additional attempts, allowing them to resubmit improved waves before the entry deadline of 25 August 2026. Only the most recently submitted pair of waves counts for scoring — earlier submissions are superseded.

IMPORTANT ALL WAVES MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 7 DAYS OF BEING SURFED AT ALAIA BAY.

02

Video Submission

Surf at Alaia Bay anytime between 1 Aug and 25 Oct 2026 and upload your official SURF EYE footage in the original unedited LANDSCAPE format through your WPST athlete portal. IMPORTANT, all video uploads and entries must be done within 7 days of surfing your session.

Athletes book and pay for a session at Alaia Bay independently. During the submission window (1 August – 25 October 2026), footage from your session can be uploaded via the WPST athlete portal. Video must clearly show the full wave from take-off to completion and must be the official SURF EYE purchased download.

Each submitted wave is processed by the WPST team before entering the judging queue. Athletes will receive a confirmation notification when their videos are accepted. Only waves ridden at the designated venue (Alaia Bay, Sion) are eligible.

03

Special Categories

Best Air, Best Barrel, Best Turn and Best Wipeout are judged on a single wave on any wave setting or direction — enter and purchase separately.

Special categories (Best Air, Best Barrel, Best Turn, Best Wipeout) are open to all registered competitors and are purchased as separate entries. Unlike the main divisions, special categories require only one submitted wave in either direction.

Judging criteria for special categories focuses on the specific manoeuvre, with commitment - creativity - control.
