Born in Bilbao and based in Lanzarote, 15-year-old Carla Morera de la Vall wants to enter as many Wavepool Surf Tour events as possible. Whenever she competes, the goal is to win.

Carla’s surfing started on family holidays, with more regular sessions following a few years later. These days, La Santa Left is home, and her wave pool travels have already taken her across Europe and over to Virginia. That is a decent amount of ground covered at 15.

Her recent results include: 2nd place Morocco Mall Junior Pro Casablanca; 7th place ROXY Junior Pro Capbreton 2026, and 5th place ABANCA Pantin Classic Galicia Pro.

What is your name and how old are you?

Hi there! My name is Carla Morera de la Vall, and I’m 15 years old.

Where are you from, and how long have you been surfing?

I was born in the Basque Country (Bilbao) but currently live in Lanzarote. I started surfing at the age of six, only when travelling on holiday with my parents. It was around age nine that I started getting in the water more frequently.

Which category or division do you compete in?

I compete in both Open and Junior categories.

What is your home break?

La Santa Left.

Which wave pools have you surfed?

Munich, Virginia and now Alaïa.

Which is your favourite wave pool?

I’ve surfed Munich the most, and I love the wave quality.

Munich gets Carla’s vote, but Alaïa brings another incentive: the chance to secure a place in the Wavepool Surf Tour World Final. The Alaïa Surf Challenge in Sion gives competitors their first opportunity to qualify. Plenty to play for between sessions.

Are you going to Alaïa for the Alaïa Surf Challenge?

Yes, that’s the plan.

For anyone travelling with Carla, Sion offers a few reasons to venture beyond the pool. Its medieval old town has narrow streets leading towards the castles, with Valère and Tourbillon overlooking the city. Sion Tourisme has the details for a little exploring between surfs. The difficult part may be persuading her to leave the pool.

In how many of the nine Wavepool Surf Tour events would you like to compete?

As many as I can.

Is winning a Wavepool Surf Tour title your goal?

Obviously, when I compete, the goal is always to win.

A short answer, and a fairly clear statement of intent. Carla wants to enjoy the travel and the surfing, but once there is a score attached, she has a result in mind.

Who are your sponsors?

Rip Curl, Lost Surfboards, Oakley, Lanzarote Sport Destination and Iñigo Zárate Surf Paints and Repairs.

What are your future plans?

To keep enjoying surfing, competing and travelling as much as possible to the best surf spots in the world. If possible, with the best surfers in the world.
